A typical day in my SEO based life
by DazzlinDonna
Ever wondered what I do as an SEO on a daily basis? No you probably do not wonder about it, but I will share the process with you anyway. Just as a little background, I work from home, so this process does not involve having to get up at a pre-arranged time and commute to a job. It also means I end up working much longer hours than I did when I had a normal 9-5 job. So here is my typical day…
- Wake up and pour myself a cup of coffee.
- Go to Digitalpoints Keyword Tracker tool and start the process to check the rankings of all my keywords.
- Check email, especially checking for any link exchange requests that might be worthy of responding to.
- Check all my major affiliate stats to see how much money has trickled in.
- Go back to the Keyword Tracker (which should be finished running by now) and see the results. Yawn if nothing much has changed, smile if there are positive changes, frown if there are negative changes. Check out the backlinks while I am there to see if there has been any change there.
- Go to all the SEO forums I regularly visit to make sure nothing major has happened overnight that I am unaware of.
- Go to McDars Keyword Tool to check a few problem keywords. Stare at the results for a while trying to figure out why they are what they are. If any lightbulbs come on, go make adjustments to code, content, or linking strategy.
- Spend an hour or two trying to find new directories or sites to place my links.
- Remember that I am supposed to get dressed and eat at some point. Grab some lunch and run any errands that need to be run.
- Check email and go back to the forums. Something might have happened while I was away.
- Think…. Thinking is an important part of my daily routine. Just sitting and thinking of new content that could be added, new strategies that could be implemented, etc. I will sometimes just sit and think for about an hour, during which time my family thinks I am daydreaming and being unproductive. They would be wrong.
- At this point, I usually remember some things I had meant to do but forgot about. Maybe I was supposed to back up all the websites. Or maybe there was a new affiliate program I had intended to join. Any number of things that I might have scribbled down on my scratch pad, and then promptly forgotten about. Now I remember to actually look at the scratch pad and set about to do the things listed on it.
- Look at the clock and realize that I only have about 30 minutes to cook and clean before the family comes home. Run around and make it look as though I’ve been a housewife all day.
- Eat dinner, watch prime-time tv, wait for everyone to go to bed, and then get back on the computer to….check email and the forums…something might have happened while I was away.
