Favicon - minor, but still brands a site

Creating favicons, those little graphics that show up in your favorites list (bookmarks) and in your address bar, is perhaps a minor, silly task that you do not often think of doing. However minor they are, they do add a little something to your website. For one thing, it helps establish your brand. But probably the most significant thing is that it reminds users about your site. Most people have hundreds of bookmarked sites, and those with a distinctive favicon next to them are the ones that will stand out the most. If a user has forgotten about your site, he or she may be reminded to visit when your favicon shows up in favorites.

It used to be much more of a hassle to create favicons than it is now. In the old days, you had to use special icon programs that made even fairly simple icons difficult to make. That is no longer necessary. You can turn any image into a favicon these days with the help of special favicon generators. My favorite one is at http://www.chami.com/html-kit/services/favicon/. Simply browse to the image of your choice and your favicon is created. Then upload the favicon you have created to the root of your website and you are all done.

So on those days when you are frustrated with trying to find new backlinks or cannot seem to come up with new content to add to your site, consider making use of the time by branding your site with a favicon. You never know what return visits you make get from it.

You don't have to choose one of these, of course, but based on what I usually write about, there's a good chance any of my posts will fall into one of these categories.
