Today, I become a grandmother!
My granddaughter is being born today! Should arrive in a couple of hours! I can’t wait to welcome her. And no, she won’t be named SEO. LOL. She will be named McKayla. Just wanted to let everyone know. ![]()

There are a couple of links I wanted to point out to everyone today. The first is the Search Engine Ranking Factors compiled by Randfish. The list is comprised of factors that can influence ranking at the major search engines, both positively and negatively. This list is based on Rand’s opinions as well as those of a few people at SEO Chat. It is not intended to be an absolute certainty of factors, but rather a good guideline to use when thinking about the various things that may help you in your SEO quest. Rand, in my opinion, has blossomed from…
Just got my internet access back! Not sure if it will last or not, but I am pretty excited to be able to potentially get back to work. I am pretty much out of the SEO loop for the moment, but I will catch up as quickly as I can so I can get back to the job at hand. Hopefully, I can quickly return to updating all of you on what is going on in the SEO world.
As I am sure you all know, Hurricane Katrina left me a bit homeless for a while and unable to do much in the way of work. Two days from now, I will be returning home - assuming Hurricane Rita is not heading our way. I sure hope not. Nevertheless, once I return home, I will not have internet access for a while, so SEO Scoop will be updated even less than it has been over the last three weeks. Hopefully, life will return to normal soon, but until then (who knows for how long), I will be posting very…
Just saw this on Threadwatch, and was thrilled to see it. Google has a pilot project to inform webmasters that they have broken Google’s golden rules and are being punished. How many times have you wished you knew what you had done wrong? Obviously, some know exactly what they have done wrong, but many have no clue. It is high time for this to happen. I have never agreed with the “if you tell them what they did wrong, then they will know too much” bs. Glad to see this finally happening, and I hope they continue with it and…
Google adds blog search, using the tag line “Find blogs on your favorite topics”. According to the help page, Your results include all blogs, not just those published through Blogger; our blog index is continually updated, so you’ll always get the most accurate and up-to-date results; and you can search not just for blogs written in English, but in French, Italian, German, Spanish, Chinese, Korean, Japanese, Brazilian Portuguese and other languages as well.
It is live (but in beta) at http://blogsearch.google.com/.
Though it has been around for several years, the web page, www.google.com/microsoft.html is even stranger now that Google and Microsoft are in such a heated battle with each other. I have no idea why the page exists, or what the point of it really is, but it sure seems odd, especially now.

A good thread over at SEO Chat, entitled How Internet Phenomenon Gain Links Over Time, started by Randfish, is a great read. He discusses Acceleration and Deceleration of Link Gain Speed, Anchor Text, On-Topic Pages, and Sitewides, with some theories on how we can use this information to obtain more natural looking backlinks. Run on over and check out the thread at http://forums.seochat.com/t48762/s.html.
This article is sort of old news, but it was new news right before the hurricane hit, so I am only just now getting around to posting about it. Eweek is talking about whether or not we need another IM client, but that is not the part that really caught my eye (although I agree we do not need another one). What really interested me was the following bits where the author bemoans the fading quality of SERPs that Google has been putting out. For years, every time a Google update happens, those who fall in the rankings start saying…
I noticed a website that I wanted to point out to the SEO and SEM community. SEMcares.com exists to rally the Search Engine Marketing community to help those in need by volunteering our SEO & SEM skills to generate awareness and financial aid by delivering visitors to reputable and deserving relief organizations. If any of you can help, this site might be a good place to start.
Just a quick link to more info about the soon to be released Microsoft Search API.
The following information was written over time, and will be uploaded the first chance I get…
First, I want to say to all of you that I and my family are alive and well. Hurricane Katrina did not damage my home, although the devastation it brought to hundreds of thousands of homes is beyond belief. As crazy as it may sound, I believe that my mother who passed away several years ago somehow protected us. Looking around at all the devastation around us, and then to see my little area being mostly unharmed, I have to assume that my personal angel…
