Reverse psychology?

Yesterday, I made six posts on SEO Scoop.? Of those 6, 5 were real posts, and one was just a test to make sure my new server was handling things properly.? The subject of that post said clearly, “Test - Ignore This”, and the body of the post, which showed up fully on the home page in the snippet said, “Just testing something out folks, move along, nothing to see here.”

Why do I bring this up?? Well, until very late last night, that post was the most-read post of the day.? After the day was almost over, it fell to #2.

I think this is hysterical.? What does this tell me?? If you want your users to do something, tell them NOT to do it! Ok, I don’t want to imply that you should always use this strategy for everything.? Don’t go out and replace all your Buy Now buttons, with Don’t Buy Now buttons.? But you might occasionally want to test this out with something small.

Maybe something along the lines of “Whatever you do, don’t click this.? You really DON’T want to know what you’ve been missing all this time”.

Thanks to all of you who turned my server test into a marketing test.? :)

For just a $5 tip, you can advertise your site or affiliate link on SEO Scoop. Find out how.

If you are the first to "discover" any of my posts in StumbleUpon, one of the following categories would probably be the most appropriate to place it into. You don't have to choose one of these, of course, but based on what I usually write about, there's a good chance any of my posts will fall into one of these categories.

Business * Computers * Computer Graphics * Computer Hardware * Computer Security * Databases * Ecommerce * Internet * Internet Tools * Linux/Unix * Marketing * Search * Self Improvement * Web development * Weblogs(Blogs) * Windows * Writing

That’s funny Donna. Maybe on my forum, where I’ve got the rotating JavaScript messages at the top, I’ll add some messages that say, “Please don’t register and post messages. Do not participate or tell your friends about this site.” Perhaps worth a try…..
