Going to PubCon Las Vegas? Where to stay?
by DazzlinDonna
I’m probably going to Pubcon in Las Vegas in November, but I’m being wishy-washy about what hotel to stay in. The hotels near the Convention Center seem to be pretty pricey, and I’m not quite willing to pay nearly $300/night for a room. On the other hand, I would like to be as close as possible to the Convention Center. Anyone with some Vegas experience want to give me some suggestions on some more affordable places to stay near there? Better than flea-bag, but not 5 star? As close as possible would be nice, too. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Well, a lot of the regulars are gamblers, so honestly, people are spread out all over the place using either comps or staying at the favorite hotels. I either stay at the hilton due to status there or at the NYNY due to status there (I’m a degenerate gambler).
As far as close hotels that aren’t fleabags but arent bank breakers – the Sahara – http://www.saharavegas.com/ – is decently close to the convention center AND is on the monorail stops: http://www.lvmonorail.com/ on the same side of the street – I think it goes for about 100 a night. It is the next stop towards the old end of the strip after the convention center. The Stardust and Riviera are both on that end (near the conference center) and decently priced (usually under 150 a night)as well.
Check out the monorail site – it tells you what hotels are near what stops. The monorail runs until 2-3 am, so you’ll have no problems getting around (of course the ten ride ticket is now 35 bucks when it used to be 20 last year). Remember when looking though to see what side of the street the hotel is on – one on the same side as the monorail station is preferred. “Across the street” is a much farther distance in Las Vegas than other places and you usually have to walk THROUGH the hotel the station lets off at to get out onto the street to walk across LOL.
That said, cabs are super cheap as well. Really, as long as your on “The Strip” you’ll be ok.
Great info! Thanks much. I’ll check all that out.
I’ll be there Donna. Are you going to be speaking at all? If so, let me know which sessions.
I am very excited to see the difference between this and SES. I enjoyed SES, but don’t appreciate when software developers speak for the sole purpose of selling their stats package, etc. Can I expect the same thing at the WMW conference?
From what I hear, this is more technical in nature with less marketing staff and more IT people. My brain will probably hurt by the week-end and it won’t be from hangovers!
I’ll be there.
I actually didn’t want to stay at a hotel that was too close to the conference. I am staying at the Paris Las Vegas. It’s just more convenient to be on the strip.
Unfortunately you don’t have an About Me page so I don’t know your name nor do I see your picture. All I know is that you’re the “SEO Scoop”.
I sure do have an About Me page. Look way up at the top of any page for a link that says About SEO Scoop. But just in case someone doesn’t want to make that extra click, here’s the gist of it. My name is Donna Fontenot, and I go by the nick of DazzlinDonna on the SEO forums out there. I don’t have a pic here on the site, but if you find any of my posts on the seo forums, you’ll see my pic as my avatar. You’ll have to work for that one.
Hi, everett. Sorry, your post got stuck in Akismet spam bin. I’ve rescued it!
Sure hope I get to meet you. And no, I’m not speaking, which is good, because I want to be able to attend as much as I can. I think you’ll find some sales pitches at any conference, but there’s plenty of good information to be had at pubcon. See you there!
