Google is teaching SEO
by DazzlinDonna
softwareengineer99, in this WMW thread, has noticed something quite interesting. Adam Lasnik, Matt’s own cuttlet, officially Google’s first Search Evangelist, is giving a course in SEO to government employees at Catholic University on September 18, 2006 (and it’s only $30).
Here is the seminar outline:
- Understanding search engines and search engine results (25 minutes)
- Building crawlable, indexable, and well-ranked sites (45 minutes)
- Tools, tricks and troubleshooting (35 minutes)
- Break (10 minutes)
- Webspam –what it is, how to avoid it, how to report it, etc. (10 minutes)
- Live site evaluations (45 minutes)
- Questions & Answers (45 minutes)
and here is what you will supposedly learn:
- Understanding how search engines work
- Effectively getting website pages into the indexes of search engines
- Getting your site appropriately listed when users type in relevant keywords
Sure wish I was a government employee. If you are, and you are near Washington, DC during that time, I’d suggest you check it out. Oh, and fill me in on the details afterwards.

It would be great if someone could go from that area and recorded it so we can all hear what Adam has to say.
Hm. Only $30? Randfish does it for only $19.
It’s probably not going to cover anything you don’t already know. After all, it’s an introduction to SEO and you have been in the game long enough to guess the things that are going to be discussed.
The course is very interesting. we tried applying it to our communinty non-profit site http://www.VSNAchicago.org and it seems to be working.
