Dealing with a site undergoing the change

My oldest site, (circa 2000), needs to undergo a complete change. Everything, including the theme, platform, content, hosting, and design needs to be completely redone. This is a task I’m dreading, not only because it’s going to be a fair amount of work, but because of the SEO value that may be lost. The question to be answered is how much SEO value will be lost…if any?

One page of the site will basically look the same, but will direct users (via a manual link) to another brand new site. Products that have been paid products for all these years will now be free for download on the new site. Anyone getting to the products page from a search will be told to download them elsewhere.

The rest of the site will be completely different. I will keep track of any SERPs changes that occur due to the changes and let you know what happens in future posts. Wish me luck! :)

For just a $5 tip, you can advertise your site or affiliate link on SEO Scoop. Find out how.

If you are the first to "discover" any of my posts in StumbleUpon, one of the following categories would probably be the most appropriate to place it into. You don't have to choose one of these, of course, but based on what I usually write about, there's a good chance any of my posts will fall into one of these categories.

Business * Computers * Computer Graphics * Computer Hardware * Computer Security * Databases * Ecommerce * Internet * Internet Tools * Linux/Unix * Marketing * Search * Self Improvement * Web development * Weblogs(Blogs) * Windows * Writing

    LOL @ RP

Good luck DD. Anything in particular bring this on?

Maybe something you picked up in Vegas…?

And yet, Robert, you just HAD to look anyway, huh? ;)

Not a Vegas thing, rmc. It’s more of a branding thing in some ways, and a getting stale thing in other ways. I’ll explain all when the site is ready to go live. :)
