Exhausted, but SEOs fighting woke me up
It’s been a rough 24 hours. I had to make an emergency upgrade to a dedicated server for one of my sites to handle an influx of traffic. I got 3 hours of sleep last night, and the rest of the time has been spent being STRESSED OUT. But there’s nothing like a couple of SEOs verbally attacking each other to wake me right up.
Unfortunately, I wasn’t privy to the original sparring match that took place (which has now been removed from the blog it was on). But Rounds 2 and 3 contain some knockout blows! First I read this from the SEOrefugee blog - Exposing SEO Myths: Inbound Links Hurt where Skitzzo throws a few punches at Aaron Pratt. I then followed a link over to Aaron’s response at this post on his blog - Rules for calling others out.
Whew! I felt like ducking just in case I got hit by accident. I’m not going to take sides on this one. I do have my opinions about both the topic in question, as well as the argument that ensued. But I’ll keep those to myself, as I don’t want to be drawn into this one. Tempting, I admit, but hey, I’ve got a server to tend to. Don’t forget to duck when you read ‘em!
For just a $5 tip, you can advertise your site or affiliate link on SEO Scoop. Find out how.
If you are the first to "discover" any of my posts in StumbleUpon, one of the following categories would probably be the most appropriate to place it into. You don't have to choose one of these, of course, but based on what I usually write about, there's a good chance any of my posts will fall into one of these categories.
Business * Computers * Computer Graphics * Computer Hardware * Computer Security * Databases * Ecommerce * Internet * Internet Tools * Linux/Unix * Marketing * Search * Self Improvement * Web development * Weblogs(Blogs) * Windows * Writing

What did you need to do to the server? Was it a Coldfusion issue?

No, not a cf issue. I had to move from shared hosting to a dedicated server for one particular site. The move wasn’t as straightforward as I would have liked.

C’mon Donna! Tell us how you really feel
I will if you will!

Heh, baiting me, Rand? As entertaining as these cat-fights can sometimes be, I’m trying to stay clear of them. But let me just say this: Even if one party is right about the topic in question (and one is, imo), each party should be respectful as possible. The blogosphere is still in its toddler stage, and the toddlers are still learning how to play well together. (And that refers to all of us, btw). The conversations we have online should be no less respectful than those we have face to face.

Here-here. Excellent comment, DD.
In following this little riff I see you’re being accused of making a power play for the throne of SEO.
I’m not quite sure what that throne includes, or when it was vacated (or even who was sitting on it before it was vacated), or how the throne is bejeweled, or even what duties come with ruling from that throne, but I think that those who want it least might be the best candidates to sit in it.
So I think you might want to hold off on the retirement thing for awhile, DD. There’s a throne w/ your name on it.
(Actually, there is. I snuck into your house with a sharpie. Go check your bathroom.)

Now, that’s a throne I can rule from!
I’m not sure where anyone got any kind of idea like that, but I surely don’t want power. Heck no! That comes with way too much responsibility. The only power I like these days is the kind that comes through the electrical lines to keep my computer running and the blender mixing up the margaritas.
