Microsoft sees Google as just another Playstation 2
In an interview at MIX07 where Techcrunch’s Mike Arrington interviewed Ray Ozzie, Microsoft’s chief software architect, Ray made some interesting comments when asked about competing with Google.
The DNA of Microsoft is not going into a space unless we can change the game and win in some form. More interesting from a competitive standpoint related to Google and large incumbent competitors in general is how Microsoft approaches it and secondary and tertiary effects.
and, this…
If you go back to Sony years ago, the Playstation 2 look unassailable. A side effect, secondary effect was the creation of an entire entertainment and devices division…
I disagree that Wikipedia is using a double standard
Techcrunch and Search Engine Land both seem to think Wikipedia is using a double standard by giving special treatment to their own website properties, because they are not nofollowing links to their own sites.
Why should they? Nofollow is supposed to indicate that the link is to a site that cannot be vouched for. Obviously, Wikipedia can vouch for its own sites, so calling it unfair or a double standard is just sensationalism or link baiting, in my opinion.
Directory Maximizer
I’ve talked about submitting to directories several times before and I’ve recently discovered another good directory submission service. Some of the things I like about this particular service are:
- You can distribute and schedule your submissions at your own pace, i.e. you can submit your site to as many or as few directories as you want to at any given time. This allows you to space out the submissions, which gives it that natural, organic flavor. Luckily, they keep track of the list of directories your site is submitted to on each order. This way, you can submit to more directories…
Tagging moments in online videos with Veotag
All online videos should have some kind of tagging system that allows users to click on a tag and jump right to the part of the video it references. That’s just what veotag does and it’s pretty cool.
Better yet, the tag menu text will show up in search engines, and clicking on that SERPs result will take the user right to that part of the video. Sweet! User friendly and search engine friendly too. What more could you ask? If you’re looking for ways to better optimize video, you’ve just found one.
Hopefully, this kind of thing will take off.…
The 10 Commandments of Search
HA! Love this one - The 10 Commandments of Search
Here’s one of the commandments:
Honour the robots and the spiders with fresh content and inbound links, that thy sites’ days may be long atop the SERPs which the gods of thy search giveth thee.
A little site addition
You now have the ability to subscribe to comments, which means that you can be notified when new comments are posted on any blog posts you’ve subscribed to. You’ll find the checkbox to subscribe to a post’s comments at the bottom of the comment box on each post. Once you’ve subscribed, you can manage your subscriptions if you want to change anything.
All of this is via a cool Subscribe to Comments Wordpress plugin that I found today. How did I find this nifty little plugin? Well, do let me tell you, as I think it’s a great way to illustrate…
Watch your site visitors every movement
How cool would it be to be able to watch your visitors move their mouse, click on links, and scroll down your pages? Would that tell you anything about your site? What if you could watch and record your users’ actions for free? Would that make you clap your hands, spin around, and do a happy dance? Would I love to watch and record THAT? LOL. Ok, you can watch and record your users’ actions for free (but you can’t see them clap their hands, spin around and do a happy dance).

SEOs lose one of the best free tools to a paid model
I’m not sure exactly when this happened (it had to be sometime in the recent past), but SEOmoz has taken away the free Keyword Difficulty tool. This excellent tool is now only available to Premium members ($39/month). Obviously, since I’m not a Premium member, I’m not very happy about that. I’ve not only lost a tool that I’ve come to rely upon, but I’ve lost all the reports I’ve run in the past. Of course, Rand and his team has every right to monetize their site. After all, they give a HUGE amount back to the SEO community. I really…
Linkworth adds 4 new services
Recently, Linkworth added 4 new services beyond their standard text link advertising product. Publishers can now make money online via Linkworth’s affiliate program, selling text link ads, selling in-text advertising using their new LinkInTxt program, and posting reviews for advertisers via their new LinkPost system.
Two new SEO services include LinkDir, a directory submission service and LinkArt, an article submission service.
I’ve been a fan of Linkworth since they began and finally got to meet the guys last year at PubCon Vegas, where I was able to learn a little about their new products while still in the beta stage. (A couple of…
Hey, that was my idea!
What happens while you are busy being uninspired? You find out that someone released an SEO tool before you did.
That’s right. I had an idea which I passed along to a friend who was working on creating a SERPs cache tool. It was functioning in draft mode, but was not ready for public release. Darn it! Actually, I’m not upset, I’m just being dramatic for drama’s sake. Serparchive’s tool looks like a good one (although I haven’t actually tried it yet). But its feature-set is rich, so kudos to them!
How many good ideas do you have that either never get off the…
What do you do for inspiration?
I am completely uninspired right now. In fact, I’ve been this way for a few days now. I am usually a workaholic, and can find joy in working. But I’ve mentally checked out of the work mode for a while, and I’m not sure how to check back in. I’m sure everyone gets that way at times. What do you do when inspiration is at an all time low? Do you let it ride and see if things change? Do you try to force your way through it? Do you take a break or a vacation? What works for you?

Random Scoop
After reading Techcrunch’s post about the Random Redirect Wordpress plugin, I had to have it. I love Stumbling, and this is like having my own SEO Scoop Stumbler. Just click on the Random Scoop link in the top nav bar to get redirected to a random SEO Scoop post. Who knows what crazy stuff I might have said years ago? ![]()
