Finding the right web host

by DazzlinDonna

It’s not just about SEO. I’m sure we all realize that. So much more goes into creating a successful website, and I’ve decided to start discussing some of those other things now and then. Don’t worry. SEO Scoop will still be primarily about SEO, but it won’t always be the only focus.

The first side path I’m taking is that of hosting. I’m not sure how many hosts you’ve been through over the years, but I’ve been through dozens. Of course, in the beginning of my Internet entrepreneurial career, I was flat broke, so cheap was the only consideration of a hosting company. I even managed to get a host that cost me ONE PENNY FOR SIX MONTHS. Yep, that’s a total of two pennies per year. And frankly, the hosting wasn’t all that bad. It was at least as good as many of the $2/month plans that I tried.

Nevertheless, over time, choosing a host became more about quality, speed, uptime, and customer service than it did about pricing. But no matter what criteria you have for your hosting needs, wading through the bazillions of choices is tough. (I have it on high authority that there really are bazillions of choices). ;)

Because it’s difficult to compare web hosts, I partnered up with RealMetrics to give us all some metrics to use in our comparisons. Of course, not every hosting company in the world is included, but you’ll find detailed stats of some of the top hosting companies. I hope this is useful to some of you. And if not, oh well, maybe the next off-topic thing I focus on will be. Until then, check out the web hosting reviews, ratings, stats, and metrics information to see how these hosts measure up. I’ve also added the link to the sidebar under All SEO Scoop Tools / Web Hosting Reviews if you need to find it in the future.
