No changes in DNS/URL timeout issues?

by DazzlinDonna

As I mentioned a few days ago, some people are seeing some DNS/URL timeout issues show up in the Google Webmaster Tools, where it seems Googlebot is having some problems crawling some of our homepages and other site pages. Susan Moskwa promised to check it out on the 10th, but she’s made no further post since then. The last post in that thread was on the 11th by a user. Surely it doesn’t take more than a couple of days to track down a DNS error? I’m not trying to be bitchy, but I am interested in seeing an answer. I’d post in the Google Groups thread itself, but for some reason my posts in that thread always error out, but that’s a whole separate issue.

If anyone has heard anything about a resolution for the Googlebot DNS/URL timeout problem, please share.

Well…..Earlier today when I first read your post, Google had an error for one of my sitemaps. Error read sitemap had NO urls. I had to do the moms taxi thing, so now I get ready to investigate and its fine! With NO changes.

While I haven’t had the problem you described exactly..Google has been telling me 404 for pages one crawl and then with no changes the are fine next crawl. Even an index page one time. I checked my logs a few times, and there were visitors before during and behind many of these Google 404s, so I’m not sure whats up, but it’s really not cool. They have all come back, and none have been deindexed, but I have too much to do to chase ghosts around…Its not quite Halloween yet!

Sigh…you’re right, Melanie, none of us have the time to chase ghosts around. It would be nice to be able to depend upon what we’re told. Is there a problem or isn’t there? And if there is, is there any resolution?

    Hey-
I’ve been having problems with Google loading on my computer at ALL. Since I have gmail, I can’t get my email either. It keeps saying that it times out, and I don’t know how to fix it.
The other computer at my house (on the same connection) will load Google, sitting next to mine, but I can’t get mine to work.
I’ve cleared the cache, emptied my cookies, uninstalled and reinstalled my browser.
Does anybody else have an idea on what I can do to make this work?
    Thanks so much.

I don’t have any good solutions, but maybe a couple of workarounds for now.

    1. Use a meta search engine to search from Google. I use Zuula (zuula.com).

    2. Try a completely different browser.

    3. Check gmail from another app, such as Facebook. (http://www.online-tech-tips.com/fun-stuff/use-fmail-to-access-your-gmail-from-facebook/)

None of those really solve the problem, but hopefully it will help until you find something that does.
