htaccess Generator Tool
Jeremy Steele has just released the alpha version of an .htaccess generator tool. While it’s not yet complete, it is still useful, so I thought I’d pass it along. Even if I only ever use it to quickly generate www/non-www redirects, it’s worth bookmarking. He’s going to be adding help files and other goodies in the future, but there’s no reason not to use it as is now. I’ve got it bookmarked for future use.
Of course, be careful with .htaccess files. Make sure you don’t overwrite an existing file, and double-check everything so that you don’t accidentally block the search engine bots or something equally horrendous.
For just a $5 tip, you can advertise your site or affiliate link on SEO Scoop. Find out how.
If you are the first to "discover" any of my posts in StumbleUpon, one of the following categories would probably be the most appropriate to place it into. You don't have to choose one of these, of course, but based on what I usually write about, there's a good chance any of my posts will fall into one of these categories.
Business * Computers * Computer Graphics * Computer Hardware * Computer Security * Databases * Ecommerce * Internet * Internet Tools * Linux/Unix * Marketing * Search * Self Improvement * Web development * Weblogs(Blogs) * Windows * Writing

If you FTP into your site and cannot see the .htaccess file listed there, then DO NOT under any circumstance assume that there is no .htaccess file present.
Most FTP programs are set to HIDE all filenames that begin with a dot. If you upload your file, you WILL overwrite the existing file without realising it, and you will lose all the settings you previously had.
Always check the settings in the FTP program and make sure that you are showing filenames that begin with a dot. If in doubt, make a file called .xyz123 or something like that, upload that, and make sure the FTP view still shows it.
