Since Yahoo Is Unusable For Me, Ask Gets Its Shot

by DazzlinDonna

Now that I’m consistently getting the 999 error using Yahoo search, it’s time to try another search engine. Ask will be my default search engine for at least the forseeable future. I’ll let you know how that goes. If it fails me miserably, I’ll try something else.

BTW, the Yahoo error applies to both IE7 and Firefox, so it’s apparently not a FF extension problem. If they think my IP is scraping them, then they are woefully mistaken, and should take another look at their coding. Nearly a year ago, I made the switch from Google to Yahoo as my default search engine, and I’ve been happy with that decision ever since. It’s a shame that I can no longer use it, as I don’t think Yahoo has all that many evangelists out there. Oh well, for the moment, at least, it will be Ask’s gain.

Its hard when your search engine won’t let you search. I’ve used Google for ages, and last week their search went down. It was only for an hour or so but I panicked. Finally I went to Yahoo and was somewhat satisfied.

Ask is so neglected. It will be nice to find out about your reactions.

  3. I’ve been wanting to try Ask since I saw their latest commercial, where they actually showed viewers how it is different.

So this post prompted me to go check it out. I usually use the word “cats” to test things out.

I love how you get pictures, wiki, videos and dictionary on the side! I think I’m going to have my kids use Ask b/c they constantly need to look words up. And dictionary.com doesn’t help them at all.

  4. What prompted you to move away from Google?

A quote from what I said back then:

“It’s time to break away from the habitual use of Google, and give the other guys a real chance.”

Really, so many of us just got in the habit, that I thought some of us should at least give the other engines a real shot at winning us over. So I did.

I haven’t had any problems with Yahoo! using Safari.

I believe I know what the problem is. I think it relates to my now having a dynamic IP address served via Hughesnet (my new satellite provider). Am attempting to get a static IP from them now. Apparently, the dynamic IP address looks like it’s searching Yahoo too many times (since it’s shared by many people), so Yahoo is blocking it. Once I get my own IP, I think the problem will disappear. I’ll let everyone know, if so.
