Open Discussion For Dealing With Site Crackers
March 27, 2008 by DazzlinDonna · 16 Comments
Let me start out by saying I absolutely don’t have the answers to the question of how to deal with hackers crackers who attack our websites. Because there are so many different ways that these jerks attack, and so many different things they do to the sites once they attack, I suppose it’s impossible to come up with a one-size-fits-all answer. Still, I see more and more of this type of thing happening every day (even to security experts sites), and it just seems like there must be *something* we can all do if we just all put our minds together.
A Handy Tool To Help You Be First
March 24, 2008 by DazzlinDonna · 10 Comments
At least as far back as 2 years ago, I’ve been advising people to try to be the first person to do something. Being the first person to capitalize on some new trend is often one of the most important things you can do for good search rankings. Being first means getting attention, getting links, and sometimes getting that “gold-standard” domain name. Today, I was invited to try out a new Firefox extension that aims to help you nab that domain name before anyone else. I tried it, I liked it, and so now I’m telling you about it.
Nearing the end of the SEOs Fight Fat Charity Challenge
March 20, 2008 by DazzlinDonna · 1 Comment
Only 11 days to go before the SEOsFightFat challenge is complete. I’d like to remind everyone that each of the SEOs participating in this event are doing it not only to better their health, but mostly to help raise money for his or her favorite charity. Now that it’s coming down to the wire, I wanted to remind everyone where everything stands.
What I’m Doing Instead of Attending SES-NY
March 18, 2008 by DazzlinDonna · 6 Comments

Is it just me, or does it suddenly feel like there are more search conferences this year than there are weeks in the year? For those of you who attend most or all of them, when do you get any work done? I don’t expect an answer to that, btw, I’m really just thinking out loud. In any case, what am I doing instead of attending SES-NY today?

Quick Little Content Creation and Link Building Tip
March 13, 2008 by DazzlinDonna · 8 Comments
If you subscribe to blogs, you probably see the occasional post in which a list of quotes from respected leaders of the niche are displayed. A quick example off the top of my head would be a post in which I would list 10 quotes from respected SEOs on the topic of linkbait. Now, I’m not talking about an interview format, in which a question is specifically asked and the answers are displayed. Instead, I’m talking about quotes that you may have stumbled across in your daily web surfing travels, that you took note of and later compiled into a list.
Suggestion: Akismet Should Connect With Google
March 6, 2008 by DazzlinDonna · 16 Comments
If you run a blog, you’ve seen spam comments by the thousands arrive in the Akismet spam basket. So many of these are filled with dozens and dozens of links to porn/pills/etc. type sites. I mean seriously, each of the spam comments is just a huge long list of keyword-rich anchor text. Although Akismet catches most of them, I still have to manually mark a few of them as spam each day. This monotonous process got me to thinking. What would make these spammers stop? (If anything). And then I thought…well…what if Akismet shared all of this info with Google and the other search engines?

Over the years, I’ve come across some really good guides that would be perfect for newbies to get the information they need, without having to dig through lots of blog posts or forum threads. I decided it was a good time to do a quick roundup of ebooks and guides, both free and paid, that would be useful for anyone wanting organized how-to info to study.
My Happy Assimilation Into Cre8asite Forums

Yesterday, I was assimilated, but it’s a good thing! In case any of you have been living under a rock for some time now, one of the best search related forums ever created is Cre8asite Forums, with Kim Krause Berg at the helm. I frequent many forums, and each has its own special quality. Cre8’s special quality, I believe, is that very word “quality”.
