This is one of a series of posts in which I will be highlighting each member of the Search Bloggers list, with commentary on one of their posts (new or old). Look for this series to continue once or twice a week for the next couple of months.
Meet Stephen Pitts, the Search Blogger of the Day. Today I’d like to highlight a post that Stephen wrote a few months ago titled, Google Search within Search - User Assistance or Retailer Handicap? This topic was discussed a bit at the time by a few SEOs, but the hubbub died down fairly quickly. Our…

Every 3 months a new issue of Personal Branding Magazine is released, and since I’m a staff columnist for the publication, it’s my job to relate search marketing to that issue’s “theme”. That, in and of itself, is an interesting exercise that I would encourage all of you to undertake now and then. It’s a stretch at times to find a relationship between your niche topic and someone else’s “theme du jour”. Flexing that relationship muscle though can be beneficial in a number of ways, but I’m getting off-track here. I didn’t mean to wander into the concepts of search topic…

Matt Cutts mentioned that we’d be seeing a toolbar PR update within a few days, and sure enough, I see it today, as do others. *Everyone yawns*. But that’s not the most interesting aspect of the day. Matt also said, “we’ll be expiring some older penalties on websites.” And sure enough, he was telling the truth on that one too!
I’ve had a penalty on one site for two solid years. It happened during the July 27, 2006 “data refresh”. I’ve never known what the penalty was for, but obviously I did something wrong. I eventually quit worrying about it, and just lived…

Meet Sharon Hurley Hall, the Search Blogger of the Day. Although Sharon occasionally blogs about SEO, her focus is on freelance writing, so I’ve chosen to highlight a post that straddles both of those topics. In her post, Promotion Is Free - Article Marketing, she explains why she has found it to be an…

Meet Tamar Weinberg, the Search Blogger of the Day. If you’ve been hiding under the social networking rock, then you might have missed some of Tamar’s social networking pieces, but today I wanted to highlight one that really exemplifies the kinds of posts we’ve come to expect from her. This one, entitled What Traits Define A Social Media Marketer cuts to the heart of what everyone needs to know about engaging in social networking.

Meet Steve Gerencser, the Search Blogger of the Day. Steve’s brand used to be Large Orange Pop, but it’s now Metal Monster Marketing. I like that better.
But that’s neither here nor there. Today I want to highlight one of Steve’s posts that particularly resonates with me. In his post, It’s hard to find…

I’m done. I’ve had all I can take of the vicious, nasty, cr@p that has been going on in our little industry. Sure, SEOs have disagreed with one another from day one, usually on forums. That’s nothing new. Sometimes it got nasty. That’s nothing new. But I’ve never, ever seen things get this bad before, and you know what I blame it on? Blogging. That’s right. Blogging.
Don’t get me wrong. I love blogging. I love blogs. I love the interaction, the conversations, the ability to get to know people, and the ability to read different viewpoints. Blogging can bring the…

Meet Steven Bradley, the Search Blogger of the Day. You might know him best as the guy who creates killer ‘This Month In SEO’ roundup link lists. And of course, he doesn’t just dump a bunch of links on a page; he gives a nice summary explaining why the links are listed. But I’m…

Meet Taylor Pratt. He’s currently last on the Search Bloggers list because that’s how it worked out alphabetically. So I decided I would be different and promote the bloggers in the list in reverse order. Since this is the first Search Blogger of The Day post, I’ll give you a quick rundown of what it’s all about. I plan to highlight a post that I particularly enjoyed from each of the bloggers on the list, and share that with you. I’ll probably do this once or twice a week for the next couple of months, or until I’ve highlighted each of them. Who knows, maybe I’ll start over again when I’m done. We’ll see. But for now, let’s take a closer look at Taylor Pratt.

Just a few hours ago TechCrunch reported that one of their readers was seeing a new interface on the Google SERP. The interface is a Digg style interface allowing users to vote for/against the search results. Can you really see Google doing something like this long term? Whilst this was the first I’d heard of it, it isn’t anything completely new. Google have been testing something similar since late 2007. This feature hasn’t ever been available in the experimental area on Google but it seems like it has been available to a small percentage of users. This latest test features differences to what has been seen previously, namely that users can change their vote.

This is just a reminder that SEO Scoop is on a mission to help you promote your own search-related blog. There are actually two ways of doing that here.
First, you can be listed on the Search Bloggers list. It’s not too late to ask to be included, as Dave Shaw and his piece of toast (icon) just found out. I just added him and his Bloggle blog to the list. You can be added too…today…or any time in the future. Just follow the instructions given here to be added.
Second, you can guest post here on SEO Scoop, and get some decent exposure…

Ok, it’s time for a bit of self-promotion here. Quick question: Would you pay $5 for 4 months of advertising here on SEO Scoop - above the fold? I’d bet your answer is probably yes, right? And yet, very few people take advantage of the Scratchback TopSpots advertising that you see just over there –> to your right. Why is that, I wonder? Well, I’d guess it’s because of one or more of the following reasons:
- They don’t know that it only costs $5
- They don’t want a no-followed link even at such a low price
- They assume their ad will be bumped…
