eKstreme has finally released his Social Alerter tool. I beta tested it several months ago and thought it rocked, so I’m happy to see it available to the public. What is it? It is a tool that monitors the upcoming lists at Digg and del.icio.us and alerts you via email if the site you are tracking is about to be inundated with traffic from these sources. Ever made the front page of Digg? How’d your server hold up? Did it crash? Chances are, it did, making your front page Digg experience less than joyful. With a heads up, you can be…

I spent the entire day (and night) yesterday editing a video. This video, which was on my camcorder, covered a span of two years. We got the camcorder a month or so before Hurricane Katrina hit, and the first shots filmed were taken after we moved to a small camp (shack) to live in while our area was put back together. The camp is all about “getting back to nature”, so we did get some pretty interesting nature shots. If you aren’t squeamish, you can watch along as we watched a snake fight a large fish, for example.
Anyway, I’m veering…

Remember when I mentioned the new SEO, SEM, PPC jobs portal, SEO Vacancies, a couple of weeks ago? Well, it now has an RSS feed, which is interesting because:
- Use the RSS feed on the homepage to be informed when employers or agencies post new vacancies to the site – this will list the latest jobs on the website as they are posted.
- Jobseekers can run searches to find the types of jobs they want (SEO, PPC etc) and then click the RSS feed on the results page. The feed will then send them matched vacancies as they are uploaded onto the site.…

Because I’ve had issues installing other social bookmark plugins, I’m currently using Social Bookmarking Reloaded, and thought I’d see if I could add Sphinn to it. Luckily, it was easy, so my goal was accomplished. I’ve packaged the plugin up so you can have the revised version as well. Just click here to grab the revised version. See the original creator’s site for any help or info you may need about the plugin.
(See the little icons right under this post? That’s this plugin in action).

Ok, the title of this post sounds a bit Digg-ish, but honestly, DomainsBot is truly the best domain name search service I have ever seen. Let me explain why I think that.
Let’s say you want to start a site dealing with Linux software, and you want the domain to be keyword rich. So you type in the phrase [linux software] and click Search. You’ll get a nice long list of domains with various .tld’s, and in various states of availability. You can then start whittling down the choices by creating some filters. Filter out some of the .tld’s for example, and…

If you are a web developer, designer, SEO, or do anything web-related, you absolutely should be using Firefox simply because you can download and use some fabulously useful extensions (now called add-ons). Here are my 10 favorite Firefox add-ons, in order of each extension’s usefulness to me.
- AI Roboform Toolbar for Firefox - I’ve used Roboform for years, and I probably utilize it at least 50 times per day. I use the paid version so that I don’t have to worry about any limits being placed on how many sites’ login info I can store. I have hundreds and hundreds of items…

Andy Budd created a very cool bookmarklet (which Marcus Breese made even cooler) that allows you to overlay a layout grid on top of any web page. But wait, it’s so cool, that even if you overlay it after you’ve scrolled down a ways, it still puts the 0,0 corner right where it should be. You have to really see this to get how useful it can be. When you go grab this bookmarklet, scroll down till you see the [UPDATE:] because you’ll want to use the show/hide layout grid bookmarklet, so that you can click it on / click it…

It’s not just about SEO. I’m sure we all realize that. So much more goes into creating a successful website, and I’ve decided to start discussing some of those other things now and then. Don’t worry. SEO Scoop will still be primarily about SEO, but it won’t always be the only focus.
The first side path I’m taking is that of hosting. I’m not sure how many hosts you’ve been through over the years, but I’ve been through dozens. Of course, in the beginning of my Internet entrepreneurial career, I was flat broke, so cheap was the only consideration of…

You now have the ability to subscribe to comments, which means that you can be notified when new comments are posted on any blog posts you’ve subscribed to. You’ll find the checkbox to subscribe to a post’s comments at the bottom of the comment box on each post. Once you’ve subscribed, you can manage your subscriptions if you want to change anything.
All of this is via a cool Subscribe to Comments Wordpress plugin that I found today. How did I find this nifty little plugin? Well, do let me tell you, as I think it’s a great way to illustrate…

How cool would it be to be able to watch your visitors move their mouse, click on links, and scroll down your pages? Would that tell you anything about your site? What if you could watch and record your users’ actions for free? Would that make you clap your hands, spin around, and do a happy dance? Would I love to watch and record THAT? LOL. Ok, you can watch and record your users’ actions for free (but you can’t see them clap their hands, spin around and do a happy dance).
Just sign up at RobotReplay, put a teeny-tiny…

Podcasts seem like such a great idea, but they just don’t work for me. Why? Because while I’m listening to them, I find that I’m not really listening. My mind wanders off to other things, or I’ll start reading a blog post from somewhere, or I’ll start typing a blog post…like this one, for example. Yes, right now, I’m “listening” to a podcast, but obviously as I type this, I’m not really listening.
I try hard to listen, I really do. But about 30 seconds into a podcast, my mind ends up elsewhere. Is that a problem just with me, in…

Occasionally, I see people asking how much they should charge for either text links or graphic ads on their site. Frankly, there really isn’t a “standard” chart out there, although that would be a useful thing to have. However, I’ve compiled a list below of several link/ad pricing tools that may help you get a ballpark range of what your site is worth in terms of advertising pricing. Expect to see the occasional wide ranges from each tool, but some information is better than none, when trying to determine what price to charge.
Linkworth Link Price Quote
Text Link Ads Link Price…

Sweet! Saw this over on the Cre8asite forum, and thought I’d pass it along. DynamicDrive now has a CSS library full of sweet CSS code and styles for you to use. Dont ya just love cut and paste stuff? From the DynamicDrive site:
We recongize the increasing importance CSS plays in your site, and we want to be there to offer practical, usable CSS codes just as we have with DHTML scripts. And with that said, our CSS Library is born. The new section is designed with you in mind, with an emphasis on CSS menu codes, all laid out in an…
