Make Those Image Hotlinkers Give You Backlinks!

Ever get tired of people stealing your bandwidth because they hotlink your images? I used to have Myspacer’s sucking my bandwidth dry because their pages got so much traffic, and they were using my images for their backgrounds, etc. There are several ways of dealing with this issue, one of which is showing a different image to them than they bargained for, but there’s a new widget script available now that is even better - it gets the thieving hotlinkers to give you a backlink! Woot!

LinkMyPics is subtitled The Hotlink Advantage Maximizer. By using this script on the images you want…

A Handy Tool To Help You Be First

At least as far back as 2 years ago, I’ve been advising people to try to be the first person to do something. Being the first person to capitalize on some new trend is often one of the most important things you can do for good search rankings. Being first means getting attention, getting links, and sometimes getting that “gold-standard” domain name. Today, I was invited to try out a new Firefox extension that aims to help you nab that domain name before anyone else. I tried it, I liked it, and so now I’m telling you about it.

Very often,…

SEO Automation or Smart SEO Tools?

Let’s get this out of the way right from the start. SEO cannot be COMPLETELY automated and stay legitimately white-hat. HOWEVER, just because it cannot be completely automated, doesn’t mean that many of the processes cannot be helped along by the use of streamlined, automated tools.

Tools are an SEO’s best friend. Tools enable us to utilize a machine’s ability to quickly gather and process information. What we do with that information is where the automation process stops, and our intelligence takes over.

Many great tools exist on the market today, and I’m personally aware of some kick-ass tools that are…

Download Google Trends Historical Data Search Terms

Just got word from the folks who make my favorite keyword research tool (Wordze), that they are offering a very nice little download for free.

You can download Google’s top search terms for every hour of the day since Jan 8th 2008. Their keyword tracking software logged more than 90,400 terms since then. You’ll get an excel file mailed to you with each keyword, its rank, and time checked since Jan 8th, 2008.

Nice.

Software To Interpret Adwords and PPC Data

This is for all of you folks who want to get the most out of your PPC campaigns. I’m not going to even try to pretend that I am an expert at the PPC game, because that would be far, far, far from the truth. I’m an organic kind of gal, and there are plenty of other folks who understand the PPC game much better than I.

Nevertheless, I can usually spot a decent product when I run across one, and VisualCalc Adwords Dashboard looks like one you PPC kids should at least check out. (I am not affiliated with them in…

Mourning The Loss of WeBuildPages SEO Tools

It’s a sad day. WeBuildPages has decided to remove their awesome tools from public consumption. Granted, you can still get them (plus lots more) with their new Internet Marketing Ninjas program, but the “free” tools are history. (Yes, there’s a few still available, but not the really good ones!).

I have no doubt the new program is excellent, but I’m still going to pout about losing those great free tools. :(

One Part Ideas, One Part Marketing, One Part Giving

Those of you who know me, even a little, have probably gathered by now that I’m an idea gal. It can be frustrating to be an idea kind of person, however, because you often don’t have anyone around to bounce all your ideas off of. Family tends to roll their eyes when you say (for the millionth time), “I have an idea”, and while they may feign interest, they’d really rather you’d shut up so they can finish watching their favorite tv reality show.

So what’s an idea gal to do? How about joining a social network of other idea people?…

Reputation Management Spreadsheet

I was reading an article in the latest AMA Marketing News publication in which they were discussing reputation management and how the online posts should be tracked. I took the information they gave and turned it into a simple spreadsheet. It’s nothing fancy, but hopefully, it will help you get started on the tracking process.

Of course, not everyone needs to track reputation management this closely, but if you want to track reputation trends or create rep “scores” based on positive/negative reviews, you’ll need to do more than just Google yourself now and then. I am sure there are SEOs out there…

Is It Time To Switch To A Social Browser?

Flock. I remember that being the name of a browser that made using Flickr easier, wasn’t it? Ok, I don’t remember exactly what it was all about, but no matter what it used to be, it’s now being dubbed “The Social Web Browser”. And with SEO evolving and merging with social media so much these days, maybe it’s time to switch to a browser that has a focus on social networking.

Staying connected with our social media friends and sharing with them across networks is a challenge, but Flock’s aim it to make all of that easier. Here’s a list of…

3 User Browsing Session Recording Apps

record user browser sessionYesterday was all about heatmap solutions, and today it’s just a bit different, but within the same realm. Seven months ago, I told you about RobotReplay, which allows you to see the actual mouse movements of a user’s browsing history. It too has competition and that’s always a good thing for us.

As a reminder, these kinds of applications record a user’s browsing session, so that every glide of the mouse is captured. You can see when a user pauses and looks at an area of the screen for a while, and then starts scrolling up or down again, etc. It’s…

5 Heatmap Site Analytics Solutions

A visual heatmap of where visitors click on your web page is not only a stunning way of looking at your traffic and their activities, but it gives a view of your site that you just cannot get any other way. With one simple glance, you can immediately form impressions of what you’ve done right, and what you’ve done wrong.

Crazy Egg was the first heatmap application I ever heard of, a year or two ago, but it’s not the only game in town. I’ve listed 5 solutions that may supply your heatmap analytics needs, with each one having its own…

Social Profiles Link Generator Tool

my social profilesHave you ever noticed the links to my social profiles that I’ve got listed in the left sidebar? Yeah, it looks just like the screenshot you see here. I coded that sidebar section by hand, but I’ve been bugging someone to make a tool that would make generating that list easy. I bugged, and bugged, and bugged, and annoyed the crud out of him until he finally decided that programming the tool was much better than listening to me drone on and on about it.

So, finally, you too can generate your own little snippet of code that you can…
