Why use a plugin to control excerpts? For that matter, why use excerpts at all? Using excerpts instead of full posts on all pages, except the single posts is one more fight against duplicate content issues. Note that I said "issues" not "penalties". By using excerpts you handle many of those dup content issues, and by using this plugin, you have more control over how the excerpts are presented to your users.
