New free Google rank checker by datacenter

July 19, 2007 by DazzlinDonna · 18 Comments

A couple of months ago, I told you that Bad Neighborhood was going to be rolling out some new tools. One has just been rolled out, and I’ve been waiting for it for a long time. It checks the ranking keyword phrase in several Google datacenters. Yes, there are other tools out there that also do this, but this one does it better, if only because it doesn’t have the erroring out problems of the most popular one. It is called the Google Multiple Datacenter Keyword Rank Checker (whew, what a mouthful), and it is both visually easy on the eyes, as well as fast. Do try it out. Oh and wanna know a secret?

Top 5 Ways to Lose Your Great Search Engine Rankings Fast!

May 8, 2007 by DazzlinDonna · Comments Off

  1. Inadvertently tell the search engine spiders not to index your files, via robots.txt or metas
  2. Completely change your URLs and don’t 301 redirect the old ones to the new ones.
  3. Employ techniques that irk the search engines (let’s use hidden urls to porn sites as an example) and then make sure to badmouth an SEO. Watch how fast that SEO will scour your site for problems and then report it to the search engines
  4. Give Matt Cutts grief on his blog, being sure to include your URL. Watch him not only investigate your site and throw it in the trash heap, but give you the ultimate embarrasing smackdown as he bares all your mistakes to the world on a future blog post.
  5. Be complacent, do nothing, let the site lie fallow, and assume you’ll always have your great rankings. (Ok, this one might not be fast, but it will be surprising!)

Looks to me like a data push began on the 16th and is rolling through still. I’m seeing major changes on a couple of sites and have seen a few others mention it around the web. Looking at the datacenters shows differences of several hundred places in ranking in some cases.

SEO Test – Site Beautification

April 25, 2006 by DazzlinDonna · 2 Comments

I admit it. I have a site that has been dog-ugly for the last two years. I don’t know what I was thinking when I created it, but the design really stunk. It did fine in the SERPs and even converted okay, although there is room for improvement in both aspects, but it was just flat-out ugly.

When is the last time you checked for broken links?

April 20, 2006 by DazzlinDonna · 4 Comments

Checking for broken links on my sites is one of the things I tend to forget to do. I bet most of you do as well. But it actually is important, not just from a user-standpoint, but from an SEO standpoint as well.
