8 Utilities to Track Keyword Rankings
November 3, 2009 by Will Reinhardt · 5 Comments
One of the more tedious tasks in my monthly routine is preparing keyword ranking reports. While I enjoy analyzing the numbers and discovering how well our clients have (hopefully) improved over the past 30 days, actually collecting those numbers is a chore I don’t relish. If I can pay a few dollars to have a service perform this task on my behalf, I’m all for it.
SEO Truths Or Should That Be SEEO?
September 23, 2009 by Barry Welford · 14 Comments
The SEO Gurus and Experts have been somewhat less vocal than usual over the past few months. It can be traced to the revelation by Mark Cutts at SMX Advanced in Seattle as reported by many including Lisa Barone and Dan Thies that basically nofollow might not work like people expected for sculpting PageRank. You might have expected that, if it did not work, this might already have been spotted by some of the gurus. However there was no hint anywhere that this might be so.

High Five To Google For Selling Off SEO Business
April 2, 2008 by DazzlinDonna · 2 Comments
I’m extremely pleased to see that Google will be selling off the SEO portion of Performics. They’ve split the company up (that they acquired in the DoubleClick deal) into two parts – affiliate and search marketing. The search marketing division will be sold, and that’s exactly what we all hoped would happen. That whole “conflict of interest” thing was just way too much, and it really needed to be taken care of. Good to see them address it so quickly.

Over the years, I’ve come across some really good guides that would be perfect for newbies to get the information they need, without having to dig through lots of blog posts or forum threads. I decided it was a good time to do a quick roundup of ebooks and guides, both free and paid, that would be useful for anyone wanting organized how-to info to study.
Community Begets Community
January 24, 2008 by DazzlinDonna · Comments Off
There are a lot of pros and cons to having an online community associated with your site. The cons mostly center around having to manage people within the community (dealing with flamers, etc.). But the biggest pro, in my mind, is that community begets community. If you manage to get even a handful of core community members who are passionate about your site, they will inevitably spawn new members as they tell others about it. And much of the time, their enthusiasm for the site will filter down to the new members, causing them to be enthusiastic as well. It is this growth that will make your seo efforts easier, because you now have people who will link to your site if they have sites, or will create buzz in areas that contain people who do have sites.

There’s a new Search jobs portal in town. Well, actually, it’s way across the big pond from me, over there in London, I think, but it serves the UK, USA and Canada, so that’s local enough for me! Paul Griffiths contacted me to let me know that SEO Vacancies Ltd. has launched an SEO, PPC and SEM jobs and careers portal for the Search Engine and New Media Industry.
SEO Cartoon Quiz

Find out if you are an SEO expert or not by taking this quiz. Don’t worry, it’s short and it’s fun because you are choosing answers based on cartoons. I got 100% right, as you can see by the screenshot I took. But even if you get them all wrong, it’s still a fun waste of time for any SEO geek.
SMS Crossword Puzzle
September 6, 2007 by DazzlinDonna · 8 Comments
More than a year and a half ago, I first got excited about a print magazine that was going to debut just for us – Search Marketing Standard. Several editions later, I wanted to celebrate this great little magazine by following its lead. In this last edition (Fall 2007), SMS published a crossword puzzle near the back of the magazine. I thought it would be fun to emulate this, so I created a crossword puzzle that uses words and phrases pulled directly from the last 3 editions of SMS. You can probably guess at some of them, but others might require that you actually have the magazine in front of you. If you haven’t been a subscriber to the magazine since at least the Spring 2007 edition, you might not be able to get all of the answers right.
Why do we accept low conversion rates?

Today’s post is from a guest blogger, Khalid Hajsaleh, Thanks, Khalid!
Regardless of the type of website you have, when your site visitor takes the action you designed for them to take, a conversion occurs. In the case of an e-commerce website, a conversion happens when a customer places an order. On a lead generation website, the conversion happens when the customer fills a contact form. When a visitor subscribes to an RSS feed on a blog, a conversion happens.
