With A Little Help From My Friends

The title of that popular Beatles song captures an approach to help your website better achieve its goals. Some years back you might have thought the key to that was to make your website very visible in Google keyword searches. That is still very important. One feature of the Internet is that a search engine like Google can aim to catalogue all the information so that people may readily find what they are looking for. Search engines will certainly display your web pages if you do the right things in SEO terms.
How Well Do You Use Your Twittersphere?

That title goes to the crux of why some people rave about Twitter and others reject Twitter. Of course different folks have different tastes so that might explain this divide. However another answer may be that some have learned how to use Twitter and others have not.
Standing Out In Social Media – Miss Manners or Mis-Behavior
November 25, 2008 by Barry Welford · 2 Comments
One of the most interesting and exciting phenomena that has been created by the Internet is online communities or social media as they are sometimes called. Just think how often you hear the words, FaceBook or Twitter. It is a natural evolution from the connectedness of the Internet that was heralded in the Clue Train Manifesto. Here we will discuss how one can best profit from involvement in such online communities.
Why Fake Social Media Avatars Suck – My Experiment
November 3, 2008 by DazzlinDonna · 20 Comments
Shortly before Marty caused a ruckus with his avatar theory post, I had embarked upon an experiment of my own. I’d been taking careful note of the “popularity” of the hot chick avatars/personas that had been sweeping the social networks. I wanted to test that out for myself and see just how difficult it would be to blog as someone else. I figured I’d only be someone else up to a point – in other words, I was going to be my former self. I would assume the persona of myself at a younger age – mid-20’s or so. I would be reliving my youth, so to speak, which I thought might be fun for me, and would make for an interesting experiment as well. I would use an avatar that was attractive, but would not be identifiable as a particular person. I would create profiles under her name, and traverse the web as my new persona.
SEO, SMM, and Millenials: Huh?

Every 3 months a new issue of Personal Branding Magazine is released, and since I’m a staff columnist for the publication, it’s my job to relate search marketing to that issue’s “theme”. That, in and of itself, is an interesting exercise that I would encourage all of you to undertake now and then. It’s a stretch at times to find a relationship between your niche topic and someone else’s “theme du jour”. Flexing that relationship muscle though can be beneficial in a number of ways, but I’m getting off-track here. I didn’t mean to wander into the concepts of search topic relationships, so let me mosey on back to the road I started journeying down.

Over the years, I’ve come across some really good guides that would be perfect for newbies to get the information they need, without having to dig through lots of blog posts or forum threads. I decided it was a good time to do a quick roundup of ebooks and guides, both free and paid, that would be useful for anyone wanting organized how-to info to study.
SEO Scoop Nominated For A SEMMY Award
January 12, 2008 by DazzlinDonna · 4 Comments
There’s a new awards site that hands out awards for the best search marketing post / article. It’s been dubbed the SEMMYs, and it’s a great collection of some outstanding posts. I noticed that SEO Scoop has been nominated in the Social Media category for my Using Social Profile Pages To Your Advantage post. Very cool. Apparently, these long nominations lists are going to be reduced down in size to a much smaller pool before voting begins, so I’m not sure if I’ll make the final cut or not, but it’s very cool to be included in this round at least.
