Monitoring and managing reputation - example in action

Just 24 hours ago, Pops over at SEOrefugee complained about Charter Communications. He simultaneously blogged about it (tooned about it?) over on his TOONrefugee site. Now, just a day later, Pops’ complaint has been resolved because the director of the customer experience for Charter Communications monitored Charter’s reputation and then managed it by solving a customer complaint.

THAT my fellow SEOs is a great example of monitoring and managing reputation!

For just a $5 tip, you can advertise your site or affiliate link on SEO Scoop. Find out how.

If you are the first to "discover" any of my posts in StumbleUpon, one of the following categories would probably be the most appropriate to place it into. You don't have to choose one of these, of course, but based on what I usually write about, there's a good chance any of my posts will fall into one of these categories.

Business * Computers * Computer Graphics * Computer Hardware * Computer Security * Databases * Ecommerce * Internet * Internet Tools * Linux/Unix * Marketing * Search * Self Improvement * Web development * Weblogs(Blogs) * Windows * Writing

Now there’s an idea for you, scoop. Because managing reputation is too hard a task for small businesses (on top of the 17 other hats we wear), a script that scours the web looking for negative words on the same pages that our company’s name is found would be worth it’s weight in gold.

Should anyone choose to use this idea, I get 5%. ;)

Actually Google Financial does scour blogs and forums for posts about specific companies. In fact this SEO-Scoop post is listed there now:

So all you need to do is get yourself listed on a major stock exchange and monitor your Google Financial page.

Depending on the uniqueness of your brand and/or domain, using Google Alerts can be an easy way to help automatically keep an eye on what others are saying about you — or your competitors ;)
