Peace Y’all

by DazzlinDonna

As you know, I got a little fed up a couple of weeks ago with all the B.S. going on in our industry lately, and I decided to step back for a while and not participate. I’ve done that (and will continue to do so), but that whole crazy debacle got me thinking about peace. In fact, at some point, I plurked that we should bring back the peace sign, and that got me thinking about it even more. See, I think perhaps our society has lost its way just a tad bit. Although I don’t think we can relive the 60’s, perhaps we CAN bring back bits and pieces of it, so I thought …what the heck… I might as well give it a try.

So I created a site called ForPeaceNow.com, with the premise being that “we are for peace … now”, the “we” referring to how each of us identifies ourselves. I thought perhaps we could start some kind of meme-type thing, in which we might start a whole new Peace movement. Heck, I don’t know if it will catch on or not…maybe everyone is too apathetic…but there’s no reason I couldn’t give it a try. (You can see the badge I used for this site over in the right sidebar. I tried to come up with as many Internet business related occupations as I could think of, and then threw in some non-web occupations too, and a few other general categories, including the all-inclusive “I Am”. Use that one if nothing else fits.)

Even if you don’t decide to participate by spreading the meme or displaying a badge on your site or blog, maybe you could at least just hold up two fingers now and then and wish Peace to those you meet. Even the smallest gesture might make a difference in how we treat each other. Just sayin…

I fully support your drive for peace… However, being a search marketer – some people may just see this as heartstring cheap link/badgebait..

Why not put out any suspicions that people may harbour (hey you’re in marketing, people will be suspicious) and nofollow all those backlinks you’re going to generate…?

    Just a suggestion.

No one is locked into using the code. They can simply save the badge to their site with no link back. Or they can add nofollows to the code if they want. If they didn’t have choices, then I could justify someone accusing me of going for linkbait. But the choices are freely available, so please don’t go there.

I’m not pointing fingers.. Those in glass houses and all that.. Just saying :)

Right, I get that. But surely we haven’t progressed to the point of ultimate suspicion, and surely just because I know SEO, I’m not expected to nofollow every link on every site from now until eternity. Users have a choice. Heck GOOGLE has a choice. If Google wants to ban ForPeaceNow.com, let ‘em. I don’t care. If every person wants to throw a nofollow on the code, let ‘em. I don’t care. If people want to suspect me of being a no-good, devious, search marketer, let ‘em. I don’t care. It’s not about any of that. And if people don’t want to believe that, that’s ok too. I don’t care. Sometimes, it’s not about marketing. Sometimes, there are other things in life. Believe it…or not.

    Peace, y’all.
